THE NGC ARCHIVES

NGC was my moniker for an era (mid-late 90s) of electronic music noodlings I undertook when I looked like this.

.... and made music in a room that looked like this :

..... so here are my NGC albums in mp3 collections.... click on the pictures to get sent to a site to download the album...

Theres some weird and wonderful stuff in there if you are keen to go fishing.....

DISCONNECTION : NGC : 16 Tracks

Disconnection was the first batch of songs I ever finished as a collection. Quite wild... I was inspired by Zappa & Beefheart at the time... not the music obviously, just the attitude that if you are going to make music then you just make it with no apologies to anyone.... you make the music that you want to, and if you like it, then thats all that matters. Definitely comes across in this..... Varies from soundscapey stuff to droney stuff to fast interesting beats and even a sorta "pop"-song with a "vocal line". I let my mind wander and create whatever it was entertained by inspired by whatever mood I am. I wasn't making it for anyone or for any reason... I still fundamentally am not, but with Disconnection, I was truly in my own bubble world of creativity. I didnt have much equipment at that stage, Its surprising what you can do with next to nothing.. and sometimes those limits can bring out some very interesting creations... I can even remember taping sound off a vhs through the headphone output of a tv it was connected to! I

PLACEBO : NGC : 7 Tracks

New equipment. New style. Much more melodic. Much much longer tracks! Very long themes and ideas.... got a lot of inspiration from reading about alternaive ideas of melody, timing and structure. Also I was playing in a punk and a grindcore band around the same time... maybe theres some subconcious influence there?? No idea! Lots of different timing, new ideas, trying out new things....

LULLABY : NGC : 8 Tracks

Lullaby is a collection of the slower more peaceful songs that I wrote over the NGC era.

MIDDLE GROUND : NGC : 17 Tracks

Middle Ground has more song-like structures in the tracks, with no overly long tracks, except for one thats about eight minutes. Theres some experiments with counterpoint melodys, some looking for particular sounds/emotions, sound walls, interesting drum patterns and timings, and as usual whatever moved me at the time! Probably the best structured, best written, best produced but maybe the least interesting, depending on your particular bent, of the four collections. I fluctuate between liking all/some/none of them depending on my mood!
